More Than Just a Sound Bar, but Less Than Perfect

The SONOS PlayBar may seem expensive for a sound bar, but only if you look at it as just a sound bar. Really it does much more (and I’ll get to that). But first, as a sound bar, it works well and is pretty easy to set up: plug in the power cord and an optical cable from your TV and that’s it, as far as audio connections go. To fully configure the unit and get it to work with your existing remote, you’ll need to install the SONOS controller app (free) which runs on PC, Mac, Android and iOS devices. In the app is where you “add a device” (add the PlayBar to your home network) and establish the SONOS network in your home.

This sounds very good. Very Clear

I’m torn between a ‘Love’ and a ‘Like’. I had a Sony Sound Bar previously, which I’d had for 6 or 7 years. This sounds very good. Very Clear. It’s a little finicky with my Harmony Remote (Mute, mutes the bar. However, Mute again doesn’t turn volume back on.), but I’ve not taken the time to ‘fix’ on the Harmony. I did like the sound enough (Music and TV) to purchase the SONOS Sub. I am very pleased with the fact I rarely find myself adjusting the volume to pick up words, etc. on TV shows (once again, very clear) and I rarely rewind for the same. With this and the sub I find myself listening to more music from phone, etc. I’m looking at the Play 1’s next. I do recommend this, but caution people the price isn’t for everyone.

Love it

Our teevee audio is now a thousand times better. I picked up the sound bar and subwoofer and are looking forward to adding a couple of play 1s when I have a room more suited for surround sound. The sound from these components are rich and deep. After putting in hundreds of hours into playing Fallout 4, I have heard sounds that I didn’t even know I was missing until we upgraded to the sonos system. Set up was stupid easy and the companion app is really useful for control. My only draw back so far is I can’t have both my XBox and PlayStation remotes programed for volume control, only one or the other.

Have used other soundbars in the past but nothing meets the quality of the Sonos sounbar. My only problem is SONOS has introduced a new product that I might have purchased instead of the sound bar.

Steep price, great sound, cool system

This thing is awesome. I spent nearly a year obsessing and planning to buy a Playbar. I already own two Play:1s. I even purchased a TV specifically because it could pass through 5.1 to the Playbar. The shound is great and SONOS is pretty much the coolest thing ever. I’m knocking a star off simply for cost and it still requires a bit more for the ecosystem. EVENTUALLY, this will be the flagship of an amazing music/entertainment system. It is already pretty cool, but I don’t know how much better it sounds than my past sound bar + subwoofer combo. When I get the Play:Sub, I’m sure the comparison won’t be close, but then there’s just more cost. If you are into SONOS, have a TV that can pass through 5.1, the Playbar is the way to go. When I saw the price drop like $150 for a refurb, I jumped on it and am very happy about.

As advertised and received when promised.

Love this soundbar. I was forced to go wireless as I couldn’t string speaker wire here without tearing up drywall. I was skeptical because I had a great receiver and surround system. This, along with the subwoofer and a couple of Play 1’s produce a great sound. My only complaint is that after a month I’m still struggling to be able to play my iTunes library and playlists. I am going to call SONOS for help with that. I’ve heard they have great customer service.

Sounds great, Worked with the app without having to read the instructions. Paired with no pain. Replaced a full 7.1 B&W System. Love that it’s self powered. Doesn’t seem to need the available wireless sub-woofer. Wife loves the speaker forest out of the room. Sound is clear and tight with sufficient bass.

finally, I can hear Brit dialogue on "Masterpiece Theatre"

[63yo w/slightly-diminished hearing from too many jazz/rock concerts in my youth] no ‘audiophile’; but I know clarity vs. volume… SONOS PlayBar delivers clear TV dialogue w/volume bar in the center + I don’t have to watch ‘closed captions’ to read what I missed [Dolby or stereo depends on your TV’s audio-out] rich, full-spectrum sound off iTunes / music apps, too.

Sonos isn’t just for music any longer

Sonos isn’t just for music any longer. Group this with some Play 1s and a sub and you won’t find better surround not to mention music experience. The best hands down. I’ve owned another high dollar speaker products and Sonos is just better in several ways. I highly Recommend.
