The DualShock 4 Wireless Controller features familiar controls, and incorporates several innovative features to usher in a new era of interactive experiences. Its definitive analog sticks and trigger buttons have been improved for greater feel and sensitivity. A multi-touch, clickable touch pad expands gameplay possibilities, while the incorporated light bar in conjunction with the PlayStation Camera allows for easy player identification and screen adjustment when playing with friends in the same room. The addition of the Share button makes utilizing the social capabilities of the PlayStation 4 as easy as the push of a button. The DualShock 4 Wireless Controller is more than a controller; it's your physical connection to a new era of gaming.
the thumb sticks are more rugged and have better grip on them

I have definitely seen multiple improvements with these new PS4 controllers over the older ones. The battery lasts a lot longer, the thumbsticks are more rugged and have a better grip on them, L2 and R2 buttons are more springy (a good thing), and the thumbsticks also feel way smoother when moving them around. Other things I have noticed is that the buttons are now grey like the throwback controller and there is now a light on the touchpad. Although the last gen controllers are still pretty good, I would definitely recommend the new gen controllers for only $10 more.
Works Wirelessly on PS3’s too – almost like a PS3 OEM controller!
Ok, after much review, I had a broken PS3 controller that I just HAD to replace (due to all the old games I still have for it), and most of the internet seemed to suggest that the PS4 controllers would work on PS3 consoles…so I decided to buy one and give it a shot. The controller DOES work on the PS3 pretty good, same controls, sensitivity – just ‘shutting down’ is a bit of a pain (some older games have a double ‘logout screen’, and hitting OPTIONS is NOT the same thing as hitting the old START button to get you to a logout confirmation – you have to open the Disc slide door to get to the main logoff screen for the PS3. Other than that, the wireless Bluetooth DOES WORK, but I don’t think a single person on the internet has explained it properly to new users. You have to plug the cord in to the PS3 with a micro-USB cable (not the old mini-USB), then go through your system menu to ‘add new bluetooth device’, and once there, select ‘yes’ to add a new device, then ON THE FLY, just unplug the cable – and the controller should pop up on screen – select it and you are golden, the controller is now sync’d to the console…now, plug it back up and fully charge it. Overall, it is about the only decent solution to replacing your broken PS3 controllers (if you are hammer-hands on them, like I am, and break them often). FAR BETTER than the junky over-sensitive aftermarket controllers -which is about all that’s left for the PS3 now.
Improved Design Over the Original
I bought two of these because the originals I had were breaking in multiple areas, the analog sticks were torn up and the bumpers weren’t working either. These are better all around, the battery lasts noticably longer, the analog sticks seem to be better built and I like having the light on the top of the touch pad now. It’s sad that the same care wasn’t used during the first model of controllers, but at least they made these better and a bit closer to the quality of the PS3’s DS3 controllers.
Simply A Great Controller
The Dualshock controller is the best console controller in my opinion. This is a purely personal preference, so your mileage will vary. As far as Dualshocks go, the only real difference between this and previous generations are that the light bar is finally optional. It’s a small thing, but I’m hugely grateful for it as the owner of a number of highly reflective surfaces! Outside of that, it’s the same reliable Dualshock that you’ve used before.
Could not be more happier (got it on sale)
Thanks AMAZON! Got this on sale for $32 and could not be happier! I always had the black standard remotes. Wanted to spice things up a bit. This remote honestly feels better in your hands vs the black one. The finish on the remote in more “rough” (in a good way) than “slick* like the standard black. I wonder how the other colored remotes feel??
Got this on sale and wow it feels great. I still have all OG controllers in my house from my day 1 PS4 and this feels better somehow. Maybe just cause doesn’t have years of use? I love the light inside touchpad and battery is much better.
Huge improvement over gen 1 controller
I love this controller. Going from using a 1st gen controller to this is a huge difference. The triggers are much more responsive and the analog stick

Works great! Just wish the console came with 2 to begin with!
